We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Café and Visitor Centre Manager to oversee the daily operations of our visitor centre experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospitality, food management, and retail to ensure that our visitor centre provides exceptional service and high-quality food offerings. This role requires effective leadership skills, adherence to food safety standards, and a passion for creating a welcoming environment for our guests. 

Responsibilities

• Supervise all aspects of café and visitor centre operations, inventory management, and customer service 
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen and dining areas 
• Train, supervise, and motivate staff to deliver excellent service while fostering a positive team environment 
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and increase revenue 
• Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and feedback in a professional manner to ensure a positive experience 
• Manage staff rotas for the café, visitor centre staff and tour guides 

Ideal Qualifications

• Proven experience in a managerial role within the hotel or hospitality industry, preferably in a café or restaurant setting 
• Strong knowledge of food safety practices  
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently 
• Exceptional leadership qualities with experience in team management and staff development 
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and team members alike 
• A proactive approach to problem-solving with a focus on delivering high-quality service in a fast-paced environment 
• Barista Trained preferred but training can be provided 
• Ability to handle cash & cashing up  

Key Information and Benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £14.00 – £15.00 per hour (or agreed annualised contract)

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

Role Details

We are seeking café operatives to join our busy team to help run Benbecula Distillery’s vibrant visitor centre café.

Responsibilities

• Preparing, plating up, and preparing food in accordance with food hygiene regulations
• Serving customers, waiting tables, and using the till
• Clearing tables, cleaning, and pot washing
• Stock rotation, checking in deliveries
• Barista (full on job training provided)

Ideal Qualifications

• Any experience in kitchen, catering and hospitality is a plus
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate preferred, but not essential
• Teamwork; the ability to work well with other people and be adaptable in order to deal effectively with the demands placed on the team
• Verbal communication; to be able to give clear directions and listen to other workers and customers
• Customer awareness; the ability to understand the needs of the customer
• Numeracy; the ability to understand and process information supplied in numerical form
• Time Management and Prioritisation; the ability to prioritise effectively in order to plan workload and allocate time sensibly so deadlines are met in a timely manner
• Working under pressure; the ability to make fast and sensible decisions and remain calm in a crisis

Key Information and Benefits

Job Type: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent

Shifts: Mon – Fri/Sat between 9am & 4pm (varies during winter/summer hours)

Pay: £12.60 – £14.00 + tips (based on experience)
